Abstract

At the end of March 1983 there were 12.1 million persons registered as unemployed at public employment offices in the Community of Nine, corresponding to an unem-ployment rate of 10.9%. Despite a substantial fall, amounting to 2.2% in the absolute figures of unemployment compared with the previous month,no change in the trend of the labour market situation can be detected. The seasonally adjusted figures continue to rise, as well for the Community as for most Member States. However, within the last few months the rate of increase appears to be slowing down slightly.
