Statistical Telegram. Monthly statistics of registered unemployment in the European Community.

Abstract

The number of unemployed registered in the Community after having recorded the lowest level of the year in May and June, increased to 5.9 mn. at end July 1978. The percentage of registered unemployed in the civilian working population rose from 5.2 to 5.5.between end June and end July. This comparatively sharp increase is largely due to the arrival of young people on the labour market after the end of school or training, firus may moreover be lees inclined to recruit during the holiday period. However, seasonally adjusted figures for. the Community als'O show a.:n upward movement.
