dc.description.abstract	At the end of April 1978, the number of unemployed persons registered at public employment offices in the Community had declined somewhat to 5.8 million. This represents 5·5 % of the civilian working population, the same level as in July 1977 (the March 1978 figure was 5·7 %). The reduction compared with the previous month amounts to 3.1% for the Community as a whole and is probably to a large extent seasonal in charaater, although it is more pronounced than that between March and April 1977 (-2.2 %). The seasonally corrected figures indicate little change in the overall level of unemployment.
