Statistical Telegram. Monthly statistics of registered unemployment in the European Community.

Abstract

At the end of April 1978, the number of unemployed persons registered at public employment offices in the Community had declined somewhat to 5.8 million. This represents 5·5 % of the civilian working population, the same level as in July 1977 (the March 1978 figure was 5·7 %). The reduction compared with the previous month amounts to 3.1% for the Community as a whole and is probably to a large extent seasonal in charaater, although it is more pronounced than that between March and April 1977 (-2.2 %). The seasonally corrected figures indicate little change in the overall level of unemployment.
