Statistics in Focus: Population and social conditions. HOUSEHOLDS AND FAMILIES IN THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA.

Abstract

Recent developments in marriage and divorce, and also in fertility and mortality, have led to significant changes in household composition; cohabiting unmarried couples and lone-parent families are more frequent, traditional family structures are in decline, and more and more people are living alone. In this report, the definitions used in the 1990/91 censuses carried out in the EEA are briefly discussed and a number of basic tables are presented.
