Greece’s commitment towards the higher penetration of RES in the Greek energy system is translated in a significant number of regulatory and fiscal initiativesthat became active from 2010 and onwards, aimingto streamline and facilitate the growth and use of RES in electricity, heating and transport.This report presents the efforts and implemented measuressince2009, the achieved results in the different sectors, while it also provides preliminary findings from the progress achieved in 2011.Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change (MEECC)believes that this progress report along with the national reports and action plans for Energy Efficiency and High-efficiency Cogeneration demonstrate the vision and goal to achieve the 2020 targets and beyond, while the mandates presented here are in line with the strategic national energy planning.The exploitation of RES in the Greek energy system remains a key driver for achieving sustainable growth, while the significant potential for power production from RES technologies can serve in multifold ways towards the creation of new markets and business opportunities that could contribute significantly to the growth of the Greek economy.
