Prospects for the internal gas and electricity market. Communication from the Commission to the Council and the European Parliament.

Abstract

A competitive internal market for electricity and gas has been progressively implemented across the European Union since 1999-20001. Since then, regular annual “benchmarking” reports have been conducted on implementation and the practical results of the Directives. During 2006, the Commission has continued to monitor implementation in particular through detailed country reviews and the sector inquiry. This monitoring shows that some, often uneven, progress has been achieved.
