dc.description.abstract | In 1999 the euro was born: this was when it first appeared on payslips, bills and invoices. On 1 January 2002, euro banknotes and coins entered European bank tills, cash registers, purses and pockets for the first time. This marked another major step towards economic integration in Europe, a journey which began with the founding of the European Economic Community in 1957. |
