Abstract

Participation in compulsory education does not vary significantly among the Community regions. By contrast, considerable regional variations occur in both pie­school and post­compulsory education. A relatively large proportion of students in higher education study in capital/major cities. This tendency applies, in particular, to non­national students from countries outside the EC. Non­national students from countries within the Community are more concentrated in regions adjacent to national borders.
