dc.description.abstractEurostat estimates that the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the European Union (fifteen Member States) for the month of February 1996 was 11.0%, representing an increase of +0.1% since' January 1996 and +0.2% since February 1995. / · Since December 1995, a noticeable rise in unemhloyment has taken place in Ger-many (for men, but not for women) and also in Portugal (more significant in this case for women than men); meanwhile unemplo1yment has fallen in Finland while in the other Member States it has remained virtuflly unchanged. The climbing rate for the European Union ovef 'the last six months is to be at-tributed to increasing male unemployment (rising by +0.1% each month); the un-employment rate for women in the same period fis hovered just above t 2. 5%.
