Eurostat estimates that the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the European Union (flfte~~ Member States) for the month of May 1995 was 10.9%. The rate has be~r stable since February 1995, but has fallen by 0.5 per-centage points since May 1994. The stability of the Euro~~n Union unemployment rate-over the past few months, for both mates and females, reflects the stability of the rates for most of the mem-ber states. Neither the I recent downward trend in unemployment in Spain and Denmark, nor the upw~r~ trend in Portugal, were evident in May 1995. However, . the results show a con~inuation of the stow rate of fall of unemployment in both France and the United Kingdom.
