dc.description.abstractEurostat estimates that the seasonally-adjust unemployment rate In the European Union (fifteen Member States) for the month of February 1995 was 11.0%. The figure Is the same (11.0%) for those twelve Member States which made up the European Union before Austria, Finland and Sweden joined. Among the Member States with the highest rate~; Finland (with 17.9%), now follows Spain (23.5%) and precedes Ireland (14.8%). The unemployment rate for Sweden, (9.1%), is rather less than the average, w~il,e for Austria the fully compa-rable rate cannot yet be estimated but will be one of the lowest in the European Union. 1/ . Over recent months the unemployment rate for th~ whole of the European Union has remained stable. A decrease is clearly evident in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Spain and Denmark, whereas, in Portugal and Italy unemployment js . . . rising.
