| dc.description.abstract | When account is taken of the most recent data to become avalaible and of seasonal variations, the unemployment rate for the European Community based on International Labor Office (ILO) definition is estimated by Eurostat to be 8.4% in August 1990 compared with 8.3% to the previous month(!). The sligth increase in unemployment affected both men and women. It reflects the arrival onto the labor market of a larger number than usual of young persons leaving the education system. The unemployment rate for persons under 25 years was 15,8% in August 1990, being 13.6% for young men and 18.6% for young women.
