dc.description.abstract | Mainly for seasonal reasons, the number of registered unemployed in the Com-munity (excluding Greece) fell by 2.3% in March 1985, but at 13.3 million was still the highest figure ever recorded for March. The unemployment rate, as a percentage of the civilian working population, fell from 12.0% at the end of February to 11.8% at the end of March 1985. " Of this decrease of 317.000 in the number of unemployed persons in the Com-munity, 137.000 relate to the Federal Republic of Germany <-5.2%>, 65.000 to France <-2.6%) and 56.000 to the United Kingdom <-1.7%). There were also sub-stantial reductions in the number of registered unemployed in the other Mem-ber States, except for Italy. This pronounced reduction in the absolute figures is not, however, reflected in the seasonally adjusted figures for the Community. The Federal Republic of Germany shows an increase of 1% as measured by its national method. The trend in the other Member States is either towards stabilization, or towards a lower rate of increase. |
