Abstract

At the end of July 1983, there were 11.6 million persons registered as un-employed at public employment offices in the Community of Nine. This repre-sents an unemployment rate of 10.3% of the civilian working population. An examination of the seasonally adjusted figures appears to indicate a degree of stabilisation in the level of unemployment. The changes from one month to the next over the past four months have been very small, while male unemploy-ment is showing a slight downward trend.
