Abstract

Despite a slight reduction of 0.8% by reference to January 1982, the number of unemployed persons registered at public employment offices in the Community of Nine remained at 10.7 million at the end of February. The unemployment rate amounted to 9.7% of the civilian working population. A reduction in unemployment between January and February is the normal seasonal pattern and the absolute figures declined in all Member States with the exception of the Netherlands. The seasonally adjusted figures however continue to show an upward tendency although for the Community of Njne the rate of increase in unemployment dur-ing last month appeared less than in the preceding monthS(+ 0.7% compared with around + 2%).
