At the end of April 1982 there were 10.3 million registered unemployed in the European Community of the "Nine", equivalent to 9.3% of the civilian working population. The total of registered unemployed was sligtly lower than at end-March 1982 in all member States with the exception of the United Kingdom and Ireland. The reduction of -1.5% for the Community as a whole was, however, less than the -3% usually observed in April. The seasonally adjusted figures therefore show a further increase, inexcess of 1%, between end-March and end-April. The upward trend in the seasonally adjusted figures of registered unemployed isgeneral. As in the previous months it remains particularly marked in the F.R. of Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The rate of increase in Italy and Ireland, which had been moderate, is tending to rise. Unemployment in the United Kingdom having remained stable for two months, has resumed its upward trend and the figure of persons registered at public employment offices has once gone above the 3 million mark.
