Abstract

There were 11.2 million persons registered as unemployed in the Community of Nine at the end of September 1982, the highest figure recorded up to the pre-sent time. This represents 10.1% of the total civilian working population. The unemployment rate in the Community -as in the United States -thus passes above the 10% mark for the first time since the second world war.
