Abstract

At the end of July 1982 the unemployment rate in the Community of Nine rose to 9.6% of the civilian working population. In the previous month it was 9.3 %. The number of persons registered as unemployed at public employment offices reached 10.7 million at this time; such a level is only slightly less than that attained at the seasonal maximum last January. In the whole of the Community of Nine there were nearly 380 000 more registra-tions than at the end of June 1982 ( + 3. 7%) , of which 130 000 were in the United Kingdom(+ 4.2%), 107 000 in the Federal Republic of Germany(+ 6.5 %) and 62 000 in Belgium(+ 12.1%).
