Abstract

At the end of March 1982 there were 10.5 million registered unemployed persons in the European Community of the 'Nine', amounting to 9.5% of the civilian working popu-lation. The decrease in the number of registered unemployed, which is normal at the end of Winter and beginning of Spring, is less marked than usual this year. When the fi-gures are corrected for seasonal variation there is thus a further increase compared with the previous month. However, although the seasonally-adjusted figures have been rising regularly by about 2% per month since mid-1980, this is now the second month in which the rate of growth appears to have slowed to about 1%.
