dc.description.abstract	The number of persons registered as unemployed at public employment offices in the Community of Nine passed above the 9 million mark at the end of August 1981. With 9 135 700 unemployed, the unemployment rate by reference to the civilian working population amounted to 8.3 %. Compared with the previous month the number of registered unemployed in the Community of Nine went up by over 200 000 persons. In terms of seasonally adjusted figures, this corresponds to a rise of over 2 %. All Member States excepting Italy continue to be affected by a rapid increase in registered unemployment.
