dc.description.abstract	As is usual in winter, the number of unemployed registered at public employment offices rose at the end of January 1980. At 6.5 million persons, it almost reached the level of January 1979. Unemployed persons as a pert!lentage of the civilian working population thus increased from 5.7% at the end of December 1979 to 6.0% at the end of January 1980. · The increase of 5.6% in the gross figure has been mainly due to weather condi-tions. The seasonally corrected data have remained at about 6.0 million since October 1979.
