Statistical Telegram. MONTHLY STATISTICS OF THE REGISTERED UNEMPLOYED IN THE COMMUNITY APRIL 1980.

Abstract

The number of unemployed persons registered at public employment offices in the Community amounted to 6. 2 million at the end of April 1980. This represents a reduction of 1 . 9% compared with the previous month. The number unemployed re-presented 5. 7% of the total civilian working population (5.8% at end -March 1980). The unemployment rate was below the Community average in the following Member States: Luxembourg (0.6%), F. R. of Germany (3.2%), the Netherlands (4.0%) and Denmark (5.4%). In the United Kingdom the unemployment rate was at about the same level as the Community average while elsewhere the rate was above this average: Belgium (8. 5%>, Ireland (8 .1%), Italy (7. 8%) and France (6. 2%).
