Statistical Telegram. Monthly statistics of registered unemployment in the European Community.

Abstract

After a fall of more than 330,000 persons compared with the end of Februar,y 1979, the number of registered unemployed in the Community at the end of March 1979 amounted to 6.15 million. Thus registered unemployment fell from 6.o% of the civilian working population in the previous month to 5.7%. In the Community as a whole the number of unemployed decreased by 5.1% • In some individual Member States the fall was much greater : Federal Repu-blic of Germany -15.6%, Luxembourg -10.5%, Denmark -9.1% and the Netherlands -7.1%. In the other countries also unemployment declined, albeit to a lesser extent than the Community average : United Kingdom -3.4%, Belgium -2.3%, France and Italy, each with -2.2%.
