Rapid Information. Employment and unemployment. Hours of Work: Main results of surveys at Community level

Abstract

In the framework of discussions on work sharing, the Statistical Office presents in this document a selection of information from surveys which have been carried out at Community level and which have included data on hours of work. Data have heen selected with a view to providing rather long time­series and to ensuring reasonable comparability. All data refer to employees but they often relate only to manual workers. The sources used, i.e. labour cost survey for annual hours, harmonized stati­stics for hours offered to manual workers and Community labour force sample survey for weekly hours worked. There are independent surveys conceived for very specific aims which, in the case of the labour costs and labour force surveys, are not primarily those of measuring hours of work.
