dc.description.abstract | 1976, the 12th year after the entry into force of the Ankara Agreement, was a difficult year for the Association inasmuch as the Association Council had to take decisions on a number of very important questions. At the first meeting of the Association Council at Ministerial level on 1 and 2 March 1976, the two delegations made statements on the functioning and development of the Association and emphasized the need to make constructive progress. The second Ministerial meeting, originally scheduled for the end of July 1976, was postponed by mutual agreement to enable the parties to complete the work which they had begun in the light of the statements made on the matter at the first meeting on 1 and 2 March. On the Community aide the President of the Council, Mr van der STOEL, and the Vice-President of the Commission of the European Communities, Sir Christopher SOAMES, went to Ankara in early September to explain in detail to the Turkish Government the Nine's position on the various problems under consideration. |
