dc.description.abstract	Enlargement has been a success storyfor the European Union as a whole. Ithas helped to overcome the division ofEurope and contributed to peace andstability throughout the continent. InJanuary 2007, Bulgaria and Romaniajoined the EU; Slovenia adopted theeuro. Enlargement has also increasedthe size of the internal market with more than 100 million consumersstrengthening the Union's competitive-ness and its weight in the world economy. Internal trade between theold and the new members has increa-sed significantly in the last decade.
