Abstract

This communication draws the main policy messagesfrom the ‘Public finances in EMU — 2005’ report pre-pared by the Commission services (1). The report hasbeen published yearly since 2000. It presents an over-view of recent budgetary developments in the EuropeanUnion, tracks the evolution in EU fiscal surveillance,and carries out analysis on fiscal policy issues of rele-vance for the EU-wide policy debate.
