Based on the most recent results of the Community Labour Force Survey, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the European Community is I estimated by Eurostat at 9.3% for the month of October 1991. This represents .. ·' · • , an increase of 0.2 percentage points in relation to the previous month. This rate Is estimated after correction of the differences between national methods of recor-ding unemployment. Between September and October 1991, there was a particularly significant rise in unemployment rates in Spain ( +0.4 percentage points) and in Italy ( +0.3 per-centage points), two countries where rates of unemployment had remained stable over the previous 12 months. Unemployment increased slightly over the last month in Ireland and the United Kingdom ( +0.1 percentage points), continuing a trend that began in early 1990. · .. The rate of unemployment has also increased significantly among young persons • · ( +0.3 percentage points to 17.6%). Unemployment among persons aged under '· 25 is rising in the majority of Members States, particularly in Italy ( + 1.0 percent-age point) and in Spain ( +0.6 percentage points).
