Statistics in Focus. Latest developments for production and new orders in industry (excluding construction) during the third quarter of 2005.

Abstract

In the third quarter of 2005 the seasonally adjusted index of production rose by 0.6 % in the EU-25 on the basis of a comparison with the previous quarter. This confirms the growth in the second quarter of 2005 (0.7 %), with signs of a recovery in the EU-25’s industrial economy. Within the euro-zone a similar pattern was observed, as industrial output rose by 0.8 % in the third quarter of 2005, following a 0.7 % increase in the previous quarter. On the basis of a comparison with the same quarter of a year before, the EU-25’s working day adjusted index of production for total industry (excluding construction) rose by 1.2 % in the third quarter of 2005 (1.3 % in the euro-zone), which was higher than in the two previous quarters.
