Abstract

In May 1986, there was a further seasonal drop of over 370 000 (2,4%) in the number of persons registered as unemployed at unemployment offices in the Community of the Twelve. As a result 15,6 million persons were registered as unemployed in the twelve Member States. As in the preceding months, the seasonally-adjusted figures remained more or ·less unchanged. In April the number of young unemployed and the unemployed aged 25 years and over fell by similar proportions in the Community <excluding Portugal). In May by contrast the numb~r of unemployed aged under 25 years fell by 1,6r., whereas unemployed aged 25 years . . . . and over fell by 2,9r.. This Community trend in unemployed in May 1986 was reflected in figures for Greece, Denmark and the Netherlands. In other Member States however the number of unemployed aged less than 25 years fell more sharply than those aged 25 years · · · and over whilst in Italy the number of young unemployed actually rose.
