Abstract

At the end of January 1983 there were 12.3 mjllion persons registered as unemployed at public employment offices in tte Community of the Nine. This represented an unemployment rate of 11.1 % of the civilian working popula-tion. Since the end of December 1982 the number of registered unemployed in the Community has increased by about 500,000 (4.2 %); only part of this increase was seasonal. Once again the increase was partucularly pronounced in the Federal Republic of Germany and Denmark. On the other hand the situation in France and Belgium remained unchanged,
