Abstract

At the end of February 1981, 8.5 :t.lio persons in the CommunitY of Nine were registered as unemployed, representing 7.8% of the civilian working population. Whereas seasonal effects in previous years have usually begun by February to lead· to some reduction in unemployment, this year the tightness in the labour market has been maintained and even become slightly worse; seasonally adjusted figures continue to point to a rising trend in unemployment. The relatively small increase of 0.3% in the total number of unemployed in the Community during February 1931 was made up of an increase of 0.8% in male unemployment whilst unemployment among women fell slightly (-0.5%).
