Statistics in Focus: Population and social conditions. First results of the demographic data collection for 2003 in Europe.

Abstract

This publication provides basic demographic information for 2003, including statistics for the enlarged European Union. information for the 10 new countries appeared previously under the sub-section "Other Council of Europe Member States'. Given the timetable for returning the rapid questionnaire, some figures are provisional or estimates. Additional and/or more definitive information will be published in the forthcoming annual reports of the Council of Europe ("Recent demographic developments in Europe 2004") and Eurostat ("Population statistics 2004") .
