Statistical Telegram. Monthly statistics of registered unemployment in the Community December 1977 Brief Review of the past year.

Abstract

At the end of December 1977, the number of persons registered as unemployed in the Community was slightly over six million, or 5·7% of the working population. The seasonally adjusted figures suggest ·that there has been a slight downward trend over the past few months. Compared with the previous month, the number of registered unemployed dropped in France, Belgium and the United Kingdom and rose in other countries. For the Community as a whole, these countervailing changes resulted in an overall increase of 80 000 unemployed, viz. + 100 000 men and -20 000 women.
